Day Trips and Excursions

Trips to the charming village of Pátzcuaro or the historic city of Morelia have a lot to offer. As an added bonus, the journeys there and back take you through unbelievably peaceful and scenic mountains.

Bird Watching and Lagoon Tours

Playa Blanca is rich in birdlife. Simply watching the pelicans, gulls and frigates as you walk the beach is a pleasure.

Even greater birdwatching opportunities await in the lagoon behind the village of Barra de Potosi at the south end of Playa Blanca. There, paddle boats can be rented or guides with motorboats hired for birdwatching tours, but  the best way to enjoy the lagoon is by kayak. You don’t need to have experience to take an ecological kayak tour. A local fisherman-guide will help you discover the many different types of birds in the natural mangroves.

In Laguna de Potosi, you will spot roseate spoonbills and a host of other birds. The lagoon is a huge flat saltwater lagoon which is excellent for kayaking and birds watching. Bring your binoculars, cameras, hat and sun block, and be ready for a fantastic adventure.

Sport Fishing

For those who enjoy sport fishing, there are many possibilities at Playa Blanca, such as fishing for roster fish, jack crevelle and skipjack tuna.

Snorkelling

The waters off the coast of Zihuatanejo provide some of the best diving available on the Pacific coast. Here you can find everything from sea horses to manta rays, nudibranchs to whalesharks, humpback whales, dolphins, and the occasional orca.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

There is nothing quite so thrilling for guests at Solecito than to spot a whale or dolphin in the bay.

Few places can boast a population of humpback whales as large as Playa Blanca, with around 2000 of these spectacular creatures passing through every year. With strict laws governing how they can be viewed, the good news is that numbers are growing. An authorized visit to their playgrounds offshore is a must for all visitors. For information on the exciting Whales of Guerrero Researh Project. You can even to help support this worthy project
